This was a co production with Opéra de Nice. Klaus Kalchschmid ( KlassikInfo.de, June 17, 2014) praised the singing and orchestral playing but thought the direction, which centred on Nevers as a painter portraying the scenes, confusing with its movements between different time periods and costumes. Renate Freyeisen (Opernnetz.de, June 15, 2014) was also enthusiastic and noted that "Das Publikum im ausverkauften Nürnberger Opernhaus ist begeistert von der Aufführung, dem Orchester und vor allem den Solisten und feiert sie lange mit nicht enden wollendem Jubel".
