Arrietta's La conquista di GranataStadttheater Gießen, May 24 - July 11, 2014Photographs by Rolf K. Wegst, courtesy of Stadttheater Gießen
Giessen have continued their history of unearthing rare operas with this production of Arrietta's La conquista di Granata (Die Eroberung von Granada), apparently the first outside Spain. Hans Jürgen Linke in the Franfurter Rundschau (May 27, 2014) was very positive about the singing including the choir although pointing out that the production with its largely abstract staging, glossed over some of the darker aspects of an opera that celebrated the Spanish conquest of Granada. Manfred Merz (Gießener Allgemaine.de, May 25, 2014) after congratulating the choir and orchestra ended his review with " Die Solisten sind ein Traum. Unbedingt hingehen! "
