Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor

It is good to see less trumpeted opera companies, such as Anchorage Opera in Alaska, having a go at Lucia with apparently reasonable success to judge from Mike Dunham at the Anchorage Daily News (November 9, 2013) who found Amanda Hall "a solid Lucia" who "mastered both the high notes and flourishes, on pitch and convincingly paced both musically and dramatically".  He was also impressed by the Enrico of Jonathan Beyer. The staging made good use of projections rather than conventional backdrops, as can be seen from some of the photographs below. Robert Pond (, November 8, 2013) also thought " The setting by Yoshinori Tanokura was as interesting as it was creative" and while also praising Hall and Beyer found that "Beyer's likability, however, bleeds through his role as the bad guy".  Overall, he found that the "production delighted us with great music and some good voices. [even though] There was not a lot of attention given to acting".
