Young Artists production of Donizetti's
Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali given
under what has become its alternative modern title Viva la Mamma.
Philippa Kiraly from The
Gathering Note site was generally supportive of the
performance while pointing out that it is an early and unrepresentative
effort of Donizetti's whose demands make it difficult to make a
definitive critique of the voices, although she was particularly
impressed with David Scofield as the Mamma.

The Seconda Donna (Marcy
Stonikas) has a demanding stage mother (Daniel Scofield) who gets in the way.

Frustrated with the
outrageous Mamma (David Scofield), the opera’s Tenor (Andrew Stenson) quits,
taking Pipetto along with him. Mamma offers to save the show by joining the
cast.

©Bill Mohn photo The Prima Donna surprises the Maestro (David Krohn) and the
Poet with an aria they weren’t expecting.

©Bill Mohn photo At the final rehearsal, it becomes clear that the
production will be a disaster.
