Glyndebourne Touring Opera are taking their productions to a number of venues in the UK in Autumn. The production by Annabel Arden updated the plot to the 1920 or 1930's and drew praise for its straightforward, traditional, storytelling, excellent voices and the able conducting of Enrique Mazzola, although there was a feeling that some details still needed working on before its appearance at the main house in 2009. George Hall in the Guardian (October 15, 2007) talks of "Luciano di Pasquale's ... adroitly sung and acted comic performance (as Dr. Dulcamara)" , "Adriana Kucerova's Adina ... delivered with fresh tone and considerable facility", Massimo Cavalletti's Sergeant Belcore punched out " with a level of military bravado that never tips over into the boorish", while finding " the evening's main event ... Peter Auty's Nemorino" delivered with "a tone many Italian lyric tenors would kill for, and a graceful sense of style". Hall felt that the production and conducting could be improved in some details but overall judged it a success. Edward Seckerson in the Independent (October 17) was of much the same opinion. Anthony Holden in the Observer (October 21, 2007) found even less to criticise and again thought that "the jewel in the show's crown is the lovelorn Nemorino of Peter Auty". ***
