Covent Garden saw its second Laurent Pelly production this year of a Donizetti opera following his great success with La Fille du régiment. The result was another greatly enjoyable performance if without quite the freshness and originality of the earlier production and with a somewhat less starry cast, partly because of the unfortunate withdrawal of Rolando Villazón.
