The opera house at Bibao is to be congratulated on taking the risk to mount a full production of a rare opera, such as Poliuto, a risk that was rewarded by full houses. The setting of the opera was moved from Armenia to somewhere in the Middle East and the action brought close to the present day with Fascist oppressors in place of the Romans. The singing of Fiorenza Cedolins and Vladimir Stoyanov, in particular, drew much praise.
